Introduction

Said a man who had been there,  …“There are leaders and there are followers and then there are those marooned  in the center of no-where, not knowing which way the wind will blow them next.

Dear Christian Students,

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again.  You are the greatest.  You are the best of the best and the cream of the scheme.  As Christians you are fantastic and as upcoming graduates you are even more amazing.

So how does it feel when you hear people say things like,  “ the future of the world lies in the hands of our youth?” Scary?  I guess if you wander downtown on some of the street corners you might think that.  But it’s really not so scary, it’s more like exciting than anything, don’t you think?  Or is that all just a cliché?  Heck no.  Just look around you.  It’s more of a reality.  Unprepared?  Are you feeling unprepared for a role like that?  Likely, how could you not be?  Ready for action?  Great!  That’s how it should be!

And why do I extol such power and virtue upon you?  True I don’t know you individually but collectively I know you by your works.  You have already exhibited two of your finest assets.

1.   One, you are university students with a determined goal in your life and you have brains and heart enough to be moving forward toward spiritual and educational goals.

2.    And second and most importantly, because you are Christians wanting to make a positive difference in this world.

You have big shoes to fill.  Jesus left us with some very poignant instructions.  He said at Matthew 28:19-20. “Therefore go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you until the very end of the age.”  Well, the end of the age isn’t here yet and it won’t be until we accomplish what Jesus gave us to do.   It’s that simple.  There is a vast amount of work to do and you have been chosen to  lead that work!  Did you hear me?  I said all of YOU will lead that work!

And I'm here to tell you how.  So how do we make that “witness” a reality?  Where do we fit, what will be our role in this great teaching work?  What does this great teaching work include?

Young people have the energy, the vitality, even the ... how should I say it, the intellectual intuition to advance this work with a technological capability that some of us with more experience in life just don't have!

Many or most of the disciples were moderately young persons.  When you think of Jesus himself, John Mark, Steven, Barnabas, Silas and Timothy.   These were young progressive people and they accomplished amazing things in their day.
(Matt 17:14-21,19:14, Eph. 6:1-4, Tim. 1 & 2)

Well now it's your turn.

There's obviously more to this "witness" and preaching, then simply talking.  Verbal witnessing remains, of paramount importance but you can't satisfy hungry bellies by simply reading scriptures.  You can’t educate or clothe or provide water and food to needy people simply by talking about it.  That's not the whole picture of what Jesus intended or meant.  The body has many parts, not just a mouth.

Jesus showed us repeatedly what he expects of us.  On how many occasions did he feed the poor?  On how many occasions did he heal the sick?  On how many occasions did he raise hope and inspire people?  On how many occasions did he teach the masses how to live a profitable and productive life?
On how many occasions did he drive out badness?  On how many occasions did he give hope?

When he sent out the disciples, was it to preach verbally only?  No. They were to heal and to inspire, to teach and to build up.  They were to comfort, to educate, to train, and to love and assist one another.  They were to work together.  That was the mission the disciples  were given and that is the work and the mission we have not yet completed today.  And that’s where you come in.  You may not be a missionary but you will be a witness.
(Acts 10:34,35)

Millions of people are still hungry and thirsty in both a physical and a spirituall context.  Millions more need to be cured of a myriad of health issues, they need medical attention.  Hundreds and hundreds of thousands require training to plant and harvest their own food, to fish, to use modern technology  to maximize agricultural production.  As many more need education as teachers and doctors and builders and spiritual leaders.
(Acts12:24,25)

Homes need to be built or rebuilt, wells need to be dug or drilled, clothing and sustenance needs to be supplied, disaster aid needs to be provided.  Can’t you see it?  This is a Christian role.  Christ began it, we must finish it.

That is part of the Christian mission.  The earth must be cared for as if Christ were still here, in person, directing it.   This is another way in which Christ will slay Satan on earth.  When you take away the poverty, when you take away the badness, the wickedness, the treachery, the dishonesty and the ignorance, you topple Satan’s infrastructure.
(1 John 3:8) It’s not rocket science.  It’s plain common sense.  It is logical and easy to understand.   Badness, wickedness, sorrow, grief, heartache, deceitfulness, perfidy, these are the construction materials for Satan and his followers.  Take these away and you collapse that empire.  Again, it’s not magic.  It is using tactics.  It is our role as Christians. (Acts 17:16-34)

So our jobs, your jobs will be to become educated apostles, to go out and heal and feed and clothe, to generally assist all of God’s children in all nations.  (Yes, you feed old people too, smart one)  Christians must take the lead, it IS their calling.
(John 21:15-17)

So how do you do this?  By becoming the best that you can in your chosen field.  By becoming Managers and Presidents and Supervisors and scientists, engineers and teachers.  By obtaining whatever positions you can attain and then structuring or shaping, molding  your company, your corporation, towards Christian humanitarian efforts.
(2 Cor.9:6)

The money is there, the logistics are in place, the intelligence exists, the benefits are available, the global structure is capable of meeting every supply and service demand, the technology has been discovered for feeding every hungry mouth, of transporting every possible load, of rescuing every disaster stricken village, of healing or controlling many of our known diseases.  Aid and missionary organizations already exist with the “know how” and the experience of how to best address the needs of sick and stricken, starving  populations.

What we do not yet have, is a large enough force to do this.  We have God’s spirit but not enough people employing it.   We need to come together and we need to pull it together.
(Acts 2 17-21)  God’s spirit is huge but if you don’t ask for it, you don’t get it!  Yes, the hands and feet and the eyes of Christianity are here but we are all going in different directions.  We need a torso, a body with a heart and that body is in Christianity but the legs, the driving force, the locomotion, is the corporate drive, the corporate will, the corporate intelligence, the corporate desire  to accomplish this last global task.  We need business to get involved.

At the end of the day, because business is so close to many of our hearts, it will be business that will step in and make this all happen.  It will work because that is what we do in business, we make things happen.  We are Christians and we are in business.    You will lead that charge.
(1Cor 15:58)

Today  we are going to make it OUR business … and we as Christians are going to make all of this happen.

And you will lead the way.

And how we do we lead?

It's already begun.  Most Christian university Business programs voice a similar credo but I’ve never seen it expressed any better than The King’s University in Edmonton ,Alberta Canada.

Regarding the christian university role, the ultimate goal in preparing Christian students to meet the future as Christians in Business, they state:

“We are committed to equipping future entrepreneurs with a Biblically based understanding that there is more to doing good business than simply making a profit. As our slogan says; Business equals Profitability + Sustainability + Justice. Our students will learn to integrate a Christian worldview with the skills necessary to succeed in the dynamic world of commerce. We go well beyond ethics, and explore the questions of structure both at the micro and macro levels …
We believe in a transformational approach. We believe that the Gospel transforms the individual. That the transformed individual then influences the organizations in which they work. And that these organizations transform our culture and society. Out of this process new structures emerge which are more consistent with God's original intention. This is how we view the structural evangelism process. This is the mission context in which we view King's B. Comm program.”

In business, chest thumping, verbal threats and breathing fire at suppliers, employees and staff doesn’t quite cut it even though we see it happening more than we need to.  However as Christians, at any level, as management, administrative staff, as blue collar workers or as contractors or salespersons, we will have to cope with these negative situations until we can turn them around.  But it will happen.

As Christians, first we need to concentrate on our primary objective which is to live by the teachings of God through Christ.  It’s not difficult but you have to prepare yourself.  In conjunction with that we have to encourage others to do likewise.

Lets face it.  We all have to work in this crazy world no matter who runs it.

And we know that Satan is behind all of the dishonesty, hatred and the crime going on so it’s not like we can’t prepare ourselves.  As we said, God owns the world but Satan controls the infrastructure.

Well, that’s not a good thing.  The time has come where we need to take that back … but how do we expect to coup Satan?  It’s his world, he controls governments and commerce, a huge portion of religion, our social environment and entertainment, so how do we even hope to achieve this?

The answer?  Exactly as Satan has overpowered us!

ONE STEP AT A TIME

Move On to Foundation Discussion
Okay, Here’s one last thought before we tie this up.

There was a crow sitting up in a tree one day looking around at the world the way a crow does, when a rabbit happened to look up and notice him.

“Hmmm…”  mused the rabbit to himself as he watched the crow.  “That crow sits there all day doing nothing at all, yet he’s big and fat and enjoying an easy life.  Not to mention his great tan.”  I think I’ll try that.

So the rabbit stretches out under the tree in the sun just as if he were a crow except soon his eyes begin to droop and he dozes off.

Well, a fox happens by, doesn’t realize the rabbit isn't a crow … and eats him.

The moral of the story?

1   Don’t sacrifice your ambition and what you are inside trying to be what you are not, trying to fit in where you don't belong ...

and

2   Even if you don't taste good ... don’t lay around with a bad ALTITUDE!
