Hi,

I’m Malcolm Mills, retired from a long career in corporate Procurement.

Upon leaving the industry in 2006 and in an attempt to share some of this fascinating and useful “hands on” knowledge, I have authored the book “It’s a Tough World Out There …”.  The book is based upon two decades of hard won experience in the world of corporate (and other) Procurement, Warehousing, Expediting, Quality Assurance, Logistics, Production and Sales practices.

It’s been exciting work.  I've worked in Gas and Oil, Mining, under military sub contracts, in pulp and paper, ship repair and aircraft composite part manufacturing to name the more major industries. With this in mind I have prepared a program of interactive discussions particularly for students who will be entering the work force in the near future.  I provide students with detailed case histories and scenarios depicting what to expect in the roles of employees and managers and also how to meld into the business world, not an easy task in business these days.

The theme for upcoming presentations is “Expectations in Business - Knowledge is Key”.  Everyone knows that knowledge is nothing without action, which is essentially the application of that knowledge, so this is part of what we discuss, the knowledge then the actual application of the knowledge in order to become leaders in the business world.

You will also find sample Discussion/Lessons and Introductory Sessions providing the foundation for a series of further discourses. Students from any university program will benefit from learning inside industry knowledge before they encounter situations on the job, it can be a tremendous advantage and I am more than happy to share that knowledge with them.

How much more quickly the your students advance in the workplace if they are already already familiar with standard (and obscure) policies and procedures practiced by industrial corporations all over the world?
Some of the questions answered in the discussions will include:

·What are managers and supervisors looking for in new employees?
·What are managers and supervisors looking for in prospective managers?
·What are the basic policies and procedures when it comes to departments like Procurement, Quality Assurance,  Document Control, Administration, Engineering and Production?
·How is every department in an organization affected by the Procurement Department?
·How do you get the most out of  your Purchasing Department?
·How can you become noticed? (in a positive way of course)
·How do you get the most out of your customer?
·What are some of the pitfalls in the workplace to watch out for?
·Why are University grads in high demand for management positions?

I am presently booking sessions for February/March 2007.
