Knowledge is Key

What is knowledge?

· Said Socrates:   Knowledge is the one good and evil is the one ignorance.

· Said Aristotle:  All men by nature desire knowledge.

You can see the thread of thought about what knowledge is, running  happily through everyone's minds. It is man's noble quest, is it not?

Okay, so how about some more modern insights into "knowledge"?

· Says Merriam Webster (in part):

- the fact or condition of being aware of something,
- the range of one's information or understanding

· Said Sir Frances Bacon:    Knowledge is power.

· Says the NIV Bible:     the fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge (Prov.1:7)

OK, so it looks like the general consensus is that knowledge is a good thing.  Universities wouldn’t be much good without knowledge, neither would schools or any other institution or business.

But isn't there an adjective missing from all of the above?

How about:  “Accurate” knowledge is the one good ... and “inaccurate” knowledge the one evil?

How about:   All men desire “accurate” knowledge?
How about:  “Accurate” knowledge is power?

To be successful today we need ACCURATE knowledge. Knowledge is good but accurate knowledge is what success is made of.

As students entering the workforce, you already have a fantastic advantage.  You are already focused and strong from the knowledge you have gleaned over the days of your lives to date.  You are now on a mission to join the business world.

Great, so in regard to that mission, you want to be the best that you can be in everything that you do, especially in the beginning.  Your long term goal is to be a Manager, a Director, a President, a Chairperson, a Supervisor, a Teacher ... a "leader" because that is where you can do the most good.  That is where you will have greater visibility and the power to make changes for the good of your misson and your company.   High standards and ethical policies and procedures pay unmatched dividends to corporations and to businesses.

Don't be fooled.  You will only go as far as your mind will take you.

So here are a few thoughts to ponder while you anticipate your new workplace.

1.You want to be out front in your new career…but how do you get there?
2.You want to impress your team leader, your boss, your manager, professor, instructor  … but how do you get their favorable attention?
3.You want to excel, you want to get ahead … how can you compete?
4.You want to be fair or perform above average … how can you really shine?

You know where you want to go but do you know how to get there?

You need to know what others don't.  Enter ... accurate knowledge.

Most people will leave university and be hired by big business, be it Manufacturing, Research and Development (R&D), Natural Resources, Pharmaceuticals, Government, Business Administration, Medicine or elsewhere.

All new hires entering the workforce should be taught basic business policies and procedures when it comes to Procurement, Accounting, Quality Assurance and Quality Control, Office Administration,Contracts, Sales and Document Control.  You will need to know how departments interact and how they don’t.

None of you want to be the newbie in the plant or office not having a single blue clue what’s going on, who does what, or where you must go if you want to get things done.  There is definitely power in having advance accurate knowledge.

Accurate knowledge is key.  It’s your ticket to advancement.  Frances Bacon was right.  (Accurate) knowledge is power.

If you can learn the basic rules in any environment, you have an advantage over the person who doesn’t know.  If you have been taught the basic rules of business, your integral value in the workplace propels you immediately beyond your peers.  Managers will notice you.

And if managers notice you early it won’t be long before you are looking for people for your OWN team.

At Toughworld.net we don’t want to make you tougher, we want to make you smarter.  You'll get tougher on your own. We want you to understand the business environment and how you can excel in your field.  We want you to shape your company into something bigger and better so as everyone benefits.

It’s more than just sales and customers, it’s working with dignity, honor and integrity while making a profit and building a better world.
